The 15th Mississippi QSO Party will be here soon, April 7, 2018. This year, I’ve assembled a small team to activate two rare counties and two very rare grid squares. We plan to work the morning to early afternoon local time in Issaquena County and the afternoon to evening in Sharkey County. The details on the MS QSO Party, sponsored by the Vicksburg Amateur Radio Club (http://www.vicksburgarc.us), can be found at: http://www.arrlmiss.org/2018_-_2018_MSQP_Rules.pdf
Our projected schedule is:
Locations & Times: Mayersville, MS in Issaquena County & Rolling Fork, MS in Sharkey County.
– Grey Russell Park, Mayersville [32.900759, -91.050784], (9am-2pm): Grid Square EM42lv
– Visitors Center, Rolling Fork [32.908053, -90.871848](3pm-9pm): Grid Square EM42nv
– Projected 1-hour transition time (2pm-3pm) from Mayersville to Rolling Fork sites
Our mode will be SSB and CW with a portable ALS-500M amplifier to allow a few hundred watts if band conditions warrant.
Here’s a map of our locations in the southern portion of the Mississippi Delta (right). There are no licensed hams in Issaquena County. And only 12 licensed hams in Sharkey County. Both counties and grid squares are considered rare opportunities. This is especially the case for the ARRL Grid Square Contest for 2018.
The Mayors of each town has graciously allowed us to use public facilities in Mayersville and Rolling Fork respectively. I greatly appreciate the warm reception each gave my request.
As CBS reporter Charles Osgood used to say, see you on the radio!
