Why I Resigned after 12 Years as Assistant Director of the ARRL Delta Division

On February 13, 2026, I sent the following e-mail to my Delta Division Director, David Norris K5UZ, and cc’d the President, Rick Roderick K5UR:

Dear David,

It was good visiting with you at the recent Capital City Hamfest in Jackson, MS. I hope your return drive was not hazardous with the remaining weather.

I am writing because of the recent changes in the ARRL’s Bylaws, particularly Bylaw 46, and the implementation of policies pursuant to this one. You have no doubt signed the required form pledging the priority of the corporation over the members who elected you. Otherwise, you would have been ruled ineligible to serve as a Director as was your former colleague in the Atlantic Division.

It has been my honor to serve the ARRL, of which I am a Life Member, as an Assistant Director of the Delta Division under two consecutive Directors for a period of some twelve years. With your signing this legal acknowledgement, I cannot support your actions under this stipulation as I believe it is not a good outcome for the members of the League. This is a principle issue in my eyes.

Therefore, I am resigning as an Assistant Director of the Delta Division, effective with the transmission of this e-mail.

I wish you well in your continuing efforts as a Division Director and may the ARRL rise above this aberration in the effective conduct of a non-profit long built to serve members first, officials of the corporation second.

73,

Frank
